Hair loss is a problem that affects both men and women. It is more common in men. Different factors contribute to hair loss and resultant baldness. Aging, skin diseases, side effect of medicines, effect of diseases etc can cause hair loss.

Alopecia is the medical name of the condition characterized by complete or partial hair loss in women and men.

Baldness or pattern baldness in men is the most common type of hair loss problem. The reason can be attributed to the presence of adrenaline hormone. This hormone is produced during times of stress and tension. The hormone causes the hair follicles shrink, preventing growth of new hair strands.

Female pattern baldness rarely results in total hair loss and complete baldness.

It is estimated that an average of 80 hair strands shed everyday. Equal number of new hair strands is formed. If this balance is lost, it will cause hair loss problem.

Causes of Hair Loss

There are different factors involved in hair loss. Hormonal imbalance, excess sebum clogging pores and preventing nutrition to hair follicles, inadequate nutrition for body, stress and anxiety, anemia, infections, dandruff, fungi, chemotherapy, certain drugs, diabetes, lupus etc are all possible reasons for hair fall.

Home Remedies for Hair Loss

Gently massage your scalp with fingertips. This increases blood circulation to the skin, which helps existing hair stay healthy.

Boil dried or fresh Indian gooseberry (amalaki – Emblica officinalis) in coconut oil. Keep the oil in a bottle to apply on your scalp and hair an hour before taking bath. Healthy glowing hair will be the result.

Massage your scalp and soles of feet with some coconut oil.

Apply brahmi oil on your scalp.

Take some yogurt on a daily basis. Provided you are not allergic to dairy products.

Take goats milk, if you are not averse about the idea.

General Hair Loss Prevention Tips

Eat food items that are rich in vitamins, proteins and iron. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily menu.

Regularly wash hair with a gentle shampoo.

These are general tips for healthy hair growth and prevention of hair loss.
